Getting 10MPG with rebuilt 1954 235, 848 head, rebuilt SM420, Fenton Headers, Weber 32/36 carb from Tom Langdon, stock rear end with 255 75R16 tires. What could be done to improve gas mileage? or should we be happy? Bill

What type of driving:
- what average speed
- steady or start/stop
- hills/no-hills

What is the rolling diameter of your tires?
3.90 rear end
1:1 in high gear

10 mpg is low for 45-55 mph steady driving.

I cant imagine stuffing all that gas in a 235, unless you are full throttle up pikes peak?
Check the bottom of your fuel pump for a leak.

I would tell but I would get shouted down, lovingly of course. It all depends how far you want to go. change gear ratio put in T5 trans. I have been having issues that I can't figure out so right now in am getting 12 around town a 15 on the highway. If it is hilly where you live the 2.73 that I have make for a lot of shifting. 235/70/15 rear tires.

You should be getting 15 MPG with what you have. I don't care if you are hauling a half ton of manure in the bed or nothing at all. That is what these trucks get in near stock condition.
Pull your spark plugs, then figure out why they are black and sooty. Could be a leaky accelerator pump dumping in extra fuel into the intake manifold. Could be too much carburetor for your application. You did not specify how many Weber 32/36 carbs you are running.
