can't quite figure out which way the bumper brackets fit best if they go to the Inside Edge of the frame or the outside it edge of the frame on a 1950 pickup. the way it whines up it appears to want to fit on it outside I just outside edge but that does not make any sense to me.

1950 GMC 1/2 Ton Long Box 228-Zenith carb- SM420-bendix brakes
I haven't done that particular vehicle but every one I ever did, the brackets went outside the frame rails. Unless the frame has been painted there should be marks showing what was mounted where.

Yep, Outside. They won't fit inside as the front spring hanger bracket is in the way.

Thanks guys for the help, but this is for the rear bumper on a 1950 Long box GMC half ton.
The FAM shows the rear bumper brackets on the outside as well.

A further piece of advice, leave all bolts loose on the trucks for initial fit-up. Bumpers are a good example of parts that don't seem like all bolts will make, loose fit all, then tighten.
