I need to do a re-paint of the lower half of my '52 Suburban. I know little or nothing about re-paints. I've read that I should go over the area to be re-painted with 600 grit paper. Should I then prime and wet sand or can I spray right over the old finish? Knowledge is a terrible thing not to have! (P.S. the old finish is base/clear).

It depends on why you are repainting it. Is the clear peeling? Does the paint have chips or scratches in it? If you have rust coming through then you need more than sanding & paint. Give us a little more info on why you are repainting it.

I have strange situation...I either have primer bleed through or more likely bondo bleed. The truck had a urethane yellow/tan primer and was painted an off white (base/clear). Three coats base (Dupont Chroma Color) and three coats clear. The paint was fine for about three months and then I started to notice light yellow blotches on the hood and then on the cowl (top & sides). The rest of the truck is fine, The blotches did not bleed through the clear.
My plan is to paint the bottom half of the Burb Mariner Blue...probably with a single stage.

steveg ,let's get something straight. In your first post you mention lower half of your burb, and in your second post you say (light yellow blotches on the hood, cowl, top and sides.is it just me? but that sounds like a fair portion of the whole rig!and when you say lower do you mean from the window line down ,or the first foot of the bottom.Who painted it? if it was not you ,take it back to who did!

I can't go back! The description "cowl, top and sides" describes(poorly,I guess) the whole cowl section only, from the front doors forward. I need to paint from the beltline down on the whole truck.

Possibly improperly cured bondo or fiberglass. I did bodywork for my father 20 years ago. The filler never fully hardened and it sucked the paint off the furface. Took about 8 months in my case before anything looked wrong.
