| | | | Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 23 | My 327 busted it's block so looking for replacements. It's in a 59 3100 short bed deluxe fleet side. The 327 is from 1969 that was installed i'm told in the 70s. It ran great till now. It uses the old style front rod mounts, the ones a 265 would use. I'd like to stick with this setup. Other than the 69 327 what other SBC's will mount in this manner and fit the bell housing and 3 speed which i believe is the truck's original? I can get a rebuilt 327 from '69 but curious about options. Just starting the hunt.

If you use a 350 from the 1980's or newer you'll probably have to install a small diameter harmonic balancer- - - -the 8 inch balancer will probably interfere with the front mount brackets. I've seen a few installations with those brackets notched out for a big balancer, but it looks kind of Mickey Mouse, and the smaller balancer works OK on the 350.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,777 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,777 | Virtually all small block V8's from 1958 or so when they started using side engine mounts on the passenger cars to the early 90's are pretty much a bolt-in swap regardless of displacement. The small block 400's use externally-balanced crankshafts that require special harmonic balancers and flywheels, but they still have the capability of fitting the same mounts.
