Hi all, Swapping engine in father in laws 47 I believe loadmaster, Going to pull the 235 babbit pounder and put in a 58 235 car motor. My questions are will the vibration damper interchange?
The pic is the 47 235 damper that I want to use, not sure if I will be able to use crankshaft bolt with it or just rely on press fit, I need to use this damper to keep stock belt set up, the damper with 58 engine is 3/8 belt. I am also going to install the water pump adapter plate to move the original water pump up. I am hoping the generator bracket will move to side of engine mount holes on 58 engine as the bracket on old engine is mounted to flange above oil pan. Going to use intake and exhaust manifold from 47 235. Will also probably have to get a pilot shaft bushing for trans. Wish I would have shopped around more for a 54 engine as this would probably been more of a direct fit. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

welcome to the site! While you are working ona big bolt, your questions are more engine specific and would be the same for any size truck since the engine stuff is the same. I'll leave the post here but, in the future, if it is an engine specific question, you may get more visibility in the engine forum, even though it is in a big bolt! Nice looking truck, BTW!!

Hy Still learnin, It looks like you have a good grasp of some of the tricks to swap the engines. Yes the damper will interchange, but make sure it takes some effort to install it on the newer engines crankshaft, otherwise it will work its way off. You can transfer the bellhousing, flywheel and clutch assembly from the old to new engine and as you mentioned if the new engine was from a automatic car then there may not be a clutch pilot bushing in the back of the crankshaft. If you intend to convert to twelve volts at some point you have a choice to make, you can keep your six volt starter and flywheel, or you could change to a twelve volt starter and flywheel 168 teeth versus 139 teeth if I'm remembering correctly. Your six volt starter will survive just fine on twelve volts providing you don't have to do prolonged cranking to get the engine to start, hope that helps.

no, it is frowned upon to ask the same question in multiple forums. I think you will more than likely get your questions answered where it is now.
