The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop running board problem

I have a 41 3/4ton special. My r/b in the front does not line up with with the bottom of the fender, the front fender sits lower than the top of the r/b. The mounting part of the r/b was cut away, for what I don't know, anyway the bracket is in the correct position & so are the fenders. The fenders sit about 2" lower than the r/b, has anyone had this problem & if so what did you do to fix it, any help would be appreciated.

The bottom of the fender should be lower than the top of the runningboard. On my 38, and the pics I found of a 41 PU, the fender is in front of and bolts to the front of the runningboard. The bottoms of the fender and runningboard should be about the same on the horizontal plane.

I thought the bottom of the fender sat on top & mounted to the r/b, there are mounting holes on the bottom of my fender not on the lower back of the fender. I was sent pictures of a 41 longbed r/b by another stovebolter & he says his bolts to the bottom of the fender. Maybe you can send me the picture of the 41 pu you found Tiny.

I just googled "1941 chevy pickup" & clicked the image tab. I didn't see a pic that specificially showed the runningboard but what I did see looked pretty much like my 38. Maybe I'm just blowing smoke. Good luck. This might be of help.

As far as the fix, well that MIGHT be a lot of things. If your truck got "nailed" in an accident, the fix would be Plan A. If only the running board supports got "moved" the fix would be Plan B.
As you can see we Need more info

My 46 which is an Art Deco 1/2 ton the fenders mount on top of the R/B and there an aftermarket gasket that goes in there. If you want to be sure the fender is right there should also be fender mounting brackets on the firewall that keep the fender lined up to the firewall. If there aligned alright than the problem is with the running board. Possibly the R/B mounting brackets are bent but they should snug up to the cab below the door. Hope that helps and good luck. Mystery solved, The fenders were not orig. They look the same but about 2" longer in rear & wheel well is bigger. I still have a gap between the r/b & rocker panel about an inch. Does anyone know what year fenders I have described above.
