This may be a post for the driveline section, but I figured because it specific to bigger trucks it would fit here.

I pulled the PTO off of my truck because it was leaking. I searched all of the numbers on it but I can't figure out what it is. I would like to order a seal kit for it so i can put it back on. Does anyone know what I have?

Hy AdamK1500, PTO identification has always been a mystery to me, what with all the different companies merging or going out of business. There is a code or system to their numbering at least for some of them, things like torque capability, type of shift, direction of rotation etc.. What I have done in the past is measure the shaft diameter and the housing seal bore and order a seal, some of those seals have been a rather unique shape. I'll see if I can locate some numbers.

When I had mine off, I was able to get the # off the seals and found some replacements on Ebay.

I'll pull the seals this weekend and see if I can find any numbers on them.

Thanks for the help!

Seals are usually obtained by dimension. PTO's are usually ID'd by transmission, since tooth count, pitch, depth are different for each trans.

I got the seals out and measured. Just for reference for anyone looking, motion industries has a pretty large selection of oil seals to pick from.

Since the dump bed was removed on mine but the the hoses going nowhere I gues I should pull mine off and start cleaning it up. May as well pick up a parts cleaner from the cheap import store, I have a least that much grease on mine.

If one takes off a PTO, it is always a good idea to mark what trans it came off, otherwise it will become useless, someone else might want to use it someday.
