I will start by saying, this is my first rodeo and I am not a body man! I have heard the new replacement fenders are not a great fit like seemingly everything. My truck had the rusted/rotted out front corners of the cab and mounting flange on the fenders. Long ago the previous owner had repaird some rust areas and brazed the fenders to the cab instead of fixing the cab and fenders the propper way. I cut them out as cleanly as I could. I plan on repairing the cab the right way. My question is should I try to save these fenders or cut my losses and just buy new ones at ~ $400 a piece? If it was just the mounting edge I would say a good body guy could repair for about the same or less but since I see signs of other previous rust repair and filler (which I have no idea if was even done right) not sure where to go. I am not a purist where every panel has to be original but I do want it to look good when all is said and done. If the new fenders are to be avoided like the plague because of fit/alignment, etc. I would better served to repair the originals instead even of it costs slightly more I would appreciated that info as well. Here are some pictures of what I am working with.

Thanks,

I would start looking for replacement original fenders.I don’t think it would be worth your time or money trying to save them. I’ve heard the reproductions are 2 piece and are garbage. Your originals look like they’d be a boatload of work to get back up to shape. Originals in good shape are out there. Start looking and be patient.

The cab is a different story. It needs a lot of attention in that area and I suspect you will find more damage than is visible. Fixable but a pile of work that has to be done unless you want to go cab shopping too.

Thanks for the reply. I think the cab is fixable. A bunch of work but fixable. Any suggestions on where to look for fenders?

Every time I have visited JimjCarter I have seen AD doors out in his back yard. Its only a phone call so give them a ring and see if they have some good used one's out back. You just never know!

......I'm probably one of the few fans here of fiberglass, and not even sure they have them for your truck, but others, including my 37 have had fiberglass fenders, front and rear, as well as fiberglass running boards and I have not had one bit of trouble in almost 20 years. Just beware some fiberglass fenders are sprayed leaving light spots and divits..... I prefer the ones hand built/lapped. Just my .o2 worth. Send me a PM and I'll send you to a guy that may help you.....and my 37 has been driven easy, hard and fast. Not the first problem. Something to consider price wise!

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
