Howdy, I have a 1948 Chevrolet Pick-up truck. The interior of the Cab has these screws on the trim lines (ceiling and doors) that have a "Clutch head" socket. I was just curious if anyone knows what size they are, is it 5/32 or??? Hoping I can go to the HomeDepot store and find a Clutch Head bit. Knowing the size would be helpful.

Bobby, this could be the beginning of a long nightmare. Buy a good quality driver so it won't break it's own clutch tangs. Then be very careful not to round out the screw recess. These screws have been in there a long time and may have rust welded. Use plenty of blaster and possibly rock the screw back and forth. If you round the recess you have to cut a slot and try that, then go into extraction methods from hell.

I have a cordless driver/drill with a variable clutch. I set the clutch to a number that won't round out the screw head recess but will "ratchet/vibrate". This lets the blaster fluid penetrate and kicks the rust loose. Gradually increase the number on the drill being careful not to spin the recess.

Bart, that don't sound good. There is probably 100 of these clutch head screws on the ceiling, around the doors on all the metal trim rails. I need to take them all out, going to have the Cab blasted (Dustless) soon. Do you have any idea what size these clutch head slots are? Maybe I just buy a multi pack and see which one fits??

I was still typing, re read.

As far as size, make an impression on a piece of wood or something. Hit it with a rubber mallet . Stick some playdough on it and take it to the store. Or just mic it, or find a loose one that will come loose with the correct bladed screw driver. Rub a pencil on paper over it or buy several sizes and take some back to store. They are very hard to measure because the sizes are so close and tolerances can almost cause an overlap. Maybe someone with an AD will chime in with the size.

I think the stuff up high, inside a cab should not be rust welded. Hope not. They may all come out clean and easy. I was just warning you in case.

A 100 OF THEM? !!!!!!!!! I told you a million times not to exaggerate.

Bobby, if your going to work on these old trucks you’re going to need a “Full Set” of “Clutchhead” drivers. Those bolts are everywhere!🛠
