Big thanks to Joe Rago for taking the bulk of these with that crew-served weapon/camera of his... (my cell phone camera is getting old ...) HandyAndy and I took a few, as well, but by far, Joe's are the bestest and the mostest.
Homecoming '18 -- in pictures -- It was all about spending a weekend turning wrenches in good company, sharing what we knew and just having a grand time. I think the pictures show we accomplished all three objectives.
My two favorite shots -- The one of Gary and DJ conversing on the back of Joe's truck and the one of Sweet and Jack under the Hoopty van -- younger and older, learning from each other. Plus, great shots of our other professors in residence this weekend -- Grigg, Jerry, Jay and all of you who shared.
And if anyone else has any to share, please send them along.
Also -- Thanks to Billy Marlow for getting the Dash Plaques done!!

It was hard to peel these guys away from the trucks to eat. Dinner time was the only time to get shots of everyone together, but most of the time, they were turning wrenches and talking truck among the trucks. It was glorious.

In order to steal the green panel you should have at least turned off the lights.
Looks like way too much fun was had by all. Great to see the youngsters getting involved.

Ron John is right! It's like herding cats, the only way you can get them all together is with food. At one point, I counted six sideshows going on at one time. Anyone get a headcount at Saturday's evening dinner?
Great weekend Don

Jay -- "Epic," "977 miles" and "no issues" are the descriptors we like to hear about Stovebolt road trips. Bravo Zulu, Sir -- Good job! Excellent shots and a good write up.

Jay, very nice road trip documentation. Somehow you managed to not get a photo of Don (2-ton) cooking. That would have been the end to your camera.

Thanks Jay, for the great pictures and story! The Magic you brought to the Homecoming was a really good surprise. Hope you can do it can do it again next year.
Martin, if I get a chance to cook for you, I will have something really special, just for you!

Jerry, The truck starts, idles and runs just fine and I thought you had things dialed in perfect. However, when I backed off the throttle to pull off the exit, she now backfires through the exhaust. That is a nice feature that helps prevent others from tailgating, but I might back the timing down to 10 and see how that does. I had a BMW following me in VA and when the truck backfired, he backed off a good 100 yards. MPG went from 12.25 to down to 11.8 but I was driving 5mph faster (60-65 instead of 55-60.)
I appreciate the help. It will be a moot point soon since I have a fresh 230ci going into the truck this summer. 230ci on engine run stand.
I’ll have another chance to adjust things once the new engine goes in. Jay
I had the same problem of backfiring after I adjusted to eliminate pinging. BUT my gas mileage is still way off. The road mileage average drop from 20mpg to 15 and the in town dropped from 15 to 10mpg. They think it is the rear carb. Hope to figure out by Sept, KC trip. Frustrating.

I just crashed ODSS party, having seen it about it here. I didn't know anyone but I was treated like a lost son by some of the nicest folks I've met in a long time. The 116 mile trip was the farthest the 47 has been away from home in at least 20 years. No problems at all! Many thanks to all who contributed to a very fun event. Thanks for the warm reception. Chip
Chip -- Thanks for coming! I'm sorry I didn't get more of a chance to talk to you, but I thoroughly enjoyed what I did get in. Hope to see you again soon!

Man that looks like a good time. One of these years, I may have to drive the old Alaska Road Commission pickup down to visit you guys. Got an award for the farthest traveled? Heck, I'd even come if there were no award. I'd bring some Alaskan beer (assuming they let me thru Canada with it, and there's any left by the time I get there.) The old ARC pickup is still in pieces but still having fun putting it together though.

Thanks Jay. Well done as usual. Dang you guys got some stuff done. Is that Jerry's line bore machine I see? A frame off restoration project. Engine on a run stand. Transmission rebuild. Looks like complete rear end rebuild ? Geez I thought you were just drinkin beer and eatin bbq! Why would anybody pay a couple grand for a rebuild? Just get a block cleaned up, honed and load up a rebuild kit, and get the crew to put that sucker together. Reckon we could get a warranty?

Dusty don't let a little bit of water scare you put it on your bucket list of things to do and Kevin they do have a farthest award well worth. Receiving and they have a good time John Lucas you won't be disappointed
Actually, that's a Van Norman cylinder boring machine, adapted to bore the block and rear main bearing area for a full-circle rear main bearing seal. The line bore machine is still sitting in Chicago, waiting for me to make a road trip and pick it up. Once I'm all set up, I'm considering offering machine shop services to bolters who want to ship a bare block to Tennessee via Fastenal. Since most machinists won't touch a stovebolt line bore job with a 20-foot pole, it looks like I might have the market cornered! Jerry
