I have a minor problem with my carb, maybe only a link that came loose. BUT, in looking through some posts on the forum, I had some questions regarding the fir of the carb to my engine. I got my engine and carb as a package from a local shop, used, but had reason to believe that it was in good shape. I am having some reason to question that now, but that is another story.

The engine is a 1955 235 from an unknown application. I have it in a 46 truck with a 4 speed tranny (that is the way it came to me). The carb is a Rochester 1 bbl series B carb. It has an automatic choke. From what I have read, it sounds like that came from a passenger car. Is that correct? Do I have any issues? Is there a way to convert to manual choke (I am partial to manual). And is there a way to add the manual throttle (dash control).

That would be a Rochester BC carburetor (model B with automatic choke, C).

BC carburetors we used on some trucks from 1954 onwards, any maybe on earlier car 235s.

Does it have a post for the air cleaner, or, does the air cleaner clamp to the top/throat of the carburetor?

Thanks for the reply.

The air cleaner clamps on to the top of the carb. I am currently using the oil bath cleaner that came on the original truck.

Bob,

What is the Engine Serial Number that should be pressed/stamped into the block on a ledge to the rear of the distributor?

the first number has the "1" digit indicated as roman numeral "I", but I suspect that they are "1".

Yes you can convert with one of these kits....or a DIY method using a remote throttle/choke cable from any FLAPS .

Be careful - different kits require the cable to be pushed or pulled.
When in place important that position 1 (hot) is completely open, and position 2 (cold) is restricted by a clamp or sleeve to give you some idea of where you are when starting the engine. The choke pull-off for a manual transmission (what you should open the choke to immediately the engine starts) is something like 5/32" from completely closed (from the service manual setting for "automatic choke vacuum break"), which is what I mark the cable to.
