I am installing a 95 sbc in my 54 3100. the engine is being stripped of all computer stuff and going carburetor. I was told I could re-wire the 95 alternator to work as a one-wire. Is this true? It has a plug with 4 pins that connected to the massive wiring harness. How is the conversion done?

Before you do all that, you might want to look into kits that give you all the engine management stuff that the 95 has, without the 100000 wires.

Another quality post.

It actually takes two wires- - - -one from the big battery terminal, and another one from the ignition switch. Either run an idiot light or a resistor on that one to protect the regulator from overloading. I found several wiring circuits for that modification with a quick Google search.
