Over the years I have replaced the main bearings, the oil pump and the oil distributor valve. My eventual conclusion was that the cam bearings must be really worn. Well I just put the motor back in my truck after rebuilding it with .040 pistons, etc. The oil pressure readings haven't changed. So I hooked up a gauge from my spare 1938 cluster and the pressure gauge in my truck is reading quite a bit lower than the spare gauge. So I have a new gauge for my truck ordered and on the way! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 | I suspect the oil pressure gauge in my 49 is off too. It's slow to register and doesn't show any deviation between idle and at speed. I know I'm getting good oil pressure to the valve train so I dunno.
I should put my very accurate oil pressure tester on it and see but I haven't gotten "round toit" yet LOL.
It's amazing these 60+ yr old engines and their components are still tick'n and still taking a lick'n .....

What if my spare oil pressure gauge showed less than the current one. So, hopefully the current one will stay strong for me.
