I took my '48 out for a drive with a small camera mounted on the seat frame. The road was what we call a "broken ice" floor. Rough as a dirt road with washboard. The video is linked below. I can hear the squawk of my clutch pedal and the squeak of wiper blades plus various rattles but what in the world is the sound like an old rattling sewing machine about 3/4 through the video? When I'm driving, I don't hear that. It seems like the cheap microphone on the camera picks up something I don't hear. Is that lifter sound? Any audio engineers out there? Can a cheap microphone pick up sounds outside my audio range and play them back in my range? One Minute of Driving Video. 12MB. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

My 53 does that a little, but its not making self destruction noises yet so I just leave it. On edit, I did hear what I thought was a vibrating piece of metal probably close to the camera. Seat spring?

And if you can't personally hear the noise, I woiuldn't worry about it. Probably something the camera audio is distorting.
The good thing about noises is, they either spontaneously stop, or get so bad they're easy to locate.

Creaking and rattling (I used an old compact camera for obvious reasons) were as loud as any other sound inside the cab. Had the camera falling down a few times when the gorilla lost its grab, so I won't try it with my better camera. Helmut | | |
