Usually pretty easy to replace generator with alt., just make new mount tabs on existing bracket that bolts to the block to line up belts. If you have broken existing brackets, there might be something else not correctly lined up or welded properly.

Agree with Ed. You don't need to buy anything. You can make, modify or repair-weld the brackets you have. Not sure what is broken, what room there is. No pictures! But just find a few places to attach brackets, spacers and a bar with a slot in it. Play around with it, you will eventually see a way. Post GOOD pics if you want more help. Start by placing alternator in the place you want it in. Prop it in there, use wooden blocks, clamps or wire, then start visualizing how to mount. Does it matter what side it's on?

Post this in Big Bolts, you may get more responses.

I changed the valve covers on the 41 (they were a wee bit higher), which caused me to relocate the alt. bracket. After playing around with it, I got the low mount bracket from Jegs. It mounts down low on the drivers side. Think it was around $50. Like you said, there's not a lot of room to work with.

If you want it pretty do a search for "high mount alternator bracket". If you want a sure enough strong one cut a piece of 3x3x1/4 angle about 8" long and drill a pair of holes that line up with the front and front center exhaust manifold bolt holes. Use a 7/16 fine threaded nut between the angle and the manifold as a manifold clearance spacer and tack nuts to keep in place. Weld two alternator mount ears on top of the angle (or weld/bolt a factory bracket to the angle). Our 302 Ford air compressor and our sbc V8 fork lift (no kidding) are both done this way. The 302 engine runs on 4 cylinders and pumps air on the other 4 so it shakes enough to give any bracket on it a good test.
