For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 79 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 79 | Tophat here I need some clarification I have 1950 4400 1.5 ton I’m redoing the suspension and separating the parts out to be cleaned and repainted I want to replace the shackle pins along with new grease fitting and bushings I got the old ones out of the leaf springs and frame mount on the front only, one end at a time. Are all the shackle pin parts the same on these trucks during this year. While looking through the parts book I see the same part # for both 1/2 & 3/4 ton so are the front and rear shackle parts the same throughout year and they just change/add more leafs to make 1-1 1/2 tons🎩
Thanks in advance for the lesson I’m about to receive

There are different length side plates for the front shackles available and I'm not sure which models used which, but you can reuse your old ones if needed, the pins and bushings are the same.
1 ton and larger have 2" front springs, same pins and bushings fit all. 3/4 and 1 ton have 2" rear springs, 1.5 and 2 ton have 2.5" rear springs... but they all use same rear spring hangers on the frame, shackles, and pins (spring bushings may be different length). The 2" springs use 1/2" spacer washers on the spring pins to take up the extra room.
With that understanding.. there may be different front pins and bushings. Some use nuts on the pins to attach the side plates. Some use a carriage bolt through the middle of the side plates. Given a choice I buy the ones with nuts, even if not exactly original for my truck model, they're the better design.

So yes I can reuse my side plates but also one had started to spread not sure why, maybe the carriage bolt loosened. So all 50 year front pins were the same. I didn’t see a spacer on the rear so I’m assuming the rears are 2.5.
Thanks 🎩
