Here's another firewall grommet question for all the folks that know more than I do.
I'm in the process of deciphering the wiring and instruments in my '48 1/2 ton chevy truck.
I have a grommet with 4 small holes (throttle, choke, temp?,oil?) but I seem to be missing the small oval plate that secures it to the firewall. Are this available from any vendors that you know of? Thank you Jeff (slowly pulling my hair out putting this truck back together)
I have the grommet, but after some research I discover there is indeed a metal cover plate with two screws that secures it. Here's a picture I found of it. Jeff
Thanks, I'll give these guys a call. I've never heard of either one of them, Hopefully one of them will have the missing piece! For some reason I thought I had it laying around the shop in a box someplace but after a thorough search I came up empty.(yet again)
What are the measurements on the retainer, especially the depth of the dished in center part? I can press the cupped center into a piece of 18 gauge and you can trim to the correct size, shape, and screw hole spacing. If just wanting to hold grommet in place get the right size freeze plug and braze/weld ears on it for the screw holes.
