I bought the front motor mounts from Jim Carter. The bottom bolt holes on the brackets that mount on the engine are oval shaped as if they are meant to be adjustable. The holes aren't clean; they look as if someone drilled two holes next to each other. I asked them about it, and they said all of their other ones look the same. The thing is I've seen old factory mounts, and I don't remember the holes being shaped like that. Any thoughts on this?

The only reason I can think of for the "extra" holes is to possibly allow the mount to twist to clear some of the larger harmonic balancers available on some of the higher horsepower small block Chevys, the mount "stilts" are long enough that the "misalignment" may still be within range, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | right, should be like this, might be as 3B sez, modification to allow adjustment Bill | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 226 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2007 Posts: 226 | Thank you both. I guess I’ll try them since it’s been a long time since I received them. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I've used several of those & the holes were always round. They mounted just like the factory ones. I cut a little hunk out of the bracket to clear the 8 in. damper. George They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Thanks | | |
