| | | | Joined: Jan 2018 Posts: 34 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2018 Posts: 34 | So I guess i jumped into the forums without introducing myself.I live in Houston and this fall I picked up a '46 1/2 ton that formerly belonged to my wife's grandfather. I've always been more of a boat guy and not so much a grease monkey so I'll probably be asking a lot of dumb questions. I have to admit that I am getting kind of into this old car thing though....
Anyway, the truck is in quite good shape and looks like most of the body is original. It has had some mod's that I am figuring out as I go along. It has a Chevy short block V8 that by the numbers looks like a 283. It runs but clearly some exhaust coming out the oil breather so might have to do some work there eventually. I am not sure about the transmission and rear end - original or not.
The plan is to make it into a driver first. Replacing the rusted fuel tank, replacing the brakes and adding some seatbelts for starters. then...?
Glad to be part of the site and looking forward to getting some more good advice to save me from myself.

I grew up on a '46 1 ton pickup, so have always had a soft spot for that year and style.
