The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Vent Wings/Rain Guards?

I have a set of Vent Guards or rain/wind deflectors that I got in a box of parts that came with the 53 I bought. I don't see these in any of the photos in the gallery. Were they an option that was seldom used, are they not appropriate for the truck? Do they serve any real purpose or work? I am not sure about putting them on or not.

I just dismantled an old cab for parts. I also had never seen these little gutters on any trucks. I think they must have been an option. When looking at the photo you will see that the door has a vent window, this rain gutter would allow the vent to be open while driving in the rain. Because the vent windows were only introduced around 1951 I would say that these rain gutters may have not been of any use because doors prior, were only available in full glass. Not absolutely sure on the introduction of vent windows?
I think they look pretty cool.

Are you talking about a stainless, after-market, vent-window rain/wind deflector, or the standard deflector/gutter that is above a vent window?

I have the standard that looks like it goes above the vent window. I was not exactly sure where the right place to mount them is, are they normally painted the color of the body or just black or some other color. It seems I have nto really seen them in many photos, or they are pretty subtle. If I was going to mount a fulton visor would those interfere with that mounting?

We have them on our 52 1/2 ton. Can't say if they are original or not, but they look like they have been there a long long time.

The guard/deflector/channel on dbone\'s truck is an original part for A-D doors with vent windows.

The rain gutters are actually installed at the top of the door. Since the Fulton Outside visor is attached to brackets at the left & right side post of the windshiel top of the cab area I don't think there should be a problem. I have a calender of a 53 chevy pickup and it shows this set up.

They appear to be original on my '54 1/2 ton panel, painted transport blue like the rest of the truck. I like the look and function.

I have a 52, with an earlier door that has what appears to be original rain deflectors. I also purchased a second 52 door rhat has the deflector. The Fulton Visor is mounted with "dogbones" hardware that allows the use of the rain deflectors. Jimmie.

my 52 has a set , they fit very nice and will be staying on when i paint ...not sure if they are stock or not , I cant post pics here but if ya send me a mail ill send ya pics of what is on mine ?

The Thalia Fire Truck(1951) has them. Mine are red...

All ADs with the vent windows had the rain deflectors, painted body color.
