Just wondering what other guys do to lower these trucks a bit. I removed the overload spring pack and the lower 4 leaves from the main pack and it may have come down some but not much. How few leaves need to stay in place?

From what I’ve read on other forums, leave the top two and takeout every other one, which would leave you with 4 leaf springs.

I’ve also read where guys don’t like the ride af that point either and end up with air shocks or something else.

I think your best bet is to do a complete swap if you want to lower a 3600 truck.

I bought 3" drop springs with teflon pads. It it safe to just take pieces out? Kinda of an important piece. I bought 2" drop spindles for the front. I figure with the heavy 292 and blower I will pick up another inch in the front. We'll see how that works out.

Spring shop told me the same advise as above, leave the top two, remove every other one below it. Add teflon strips to soften the ride and quite them down.

My plan is to try and lower the rear just enough for the truck to be nearly level front to back. Just got the new u bolts on today but have not driven it yet. I'm hoping it might work its way down another inch or so.

Do you have lowering springs in the front or overloads in the back? Looking at your picture you have quite a bit of rake.

Whitedog,

It did have overloads on the back. This picture is after removing the overloads and 4 leaves from the main pack. The front springs are unchanged. There are no miles on it yet after total disassembly.

The stops for your overload springs, do they pinch clamp on the lower frame lip? On my 3600 they did and one side, in it's past, an owner must have had a huge weight on the back and hit a pot hole or sumptin, snapping the frame just in back of the axle. The pinch clamp spring contact sheared a flap on the lip. It's all repaired now, by me, but whoever broke the frame welded a bunch of metal on the contact rendering it useless. I'm trying to figger out if this is the original set up or something aftermarket so I can get what I need when I start putting it all back together.
