Hello all,
I bought a 1950 5 window 3100 many years ago. I am working slowly at getting it put back together.

When I bought it the hood would not close as it was forward 1" in front of the front fender edge. I figured that was caused by the front cab mounts rotted out. I have welded in a new cab floor and front motor mounts and now am test fitting hood. It still seems to be 1/2" forward. Also there is a gap between front fender and running board. Could the cab sinking down have an effect on the fender?

Do you guys have pics that could help out? How could I check the shape of the fender? I did get a different hood as well and it seems to be the right size, but alignment is poor.

Thanks, Jerry

You will need to position the cab in its proper place. Start with the front cab supports, making sure that they are not rotted out.
Next check the front and rear cab mounts. They must be in good condition in order to set up the space between the bottom of the cab and the top of the frame. Specs are in the Truck Shop Manual.
Once that is done, you can adjust the hood-to-cowl gap, and the radiator support height which is how you set up the hood closing height. When you are done, the hood to cowl gap will be 1/8 inch and parallel the full width.
All this is done with all of the fender bolts loose and the fenders shoved down and out of the way of the hood.
Once you get that far, you can raise the fenders up an bock or forward to align them with the hood.
Come on back if you have more questions.
Carl

The front fender and running board do have a gap between them.
