Check/Use all the standard places: post/look here in Parts Wanted, and/or eBay, and search Craigslist (and, there are nationwide-search Craigslist sites).

COE-specific parts will, of course, be quite hard to find.

It helps considerably to have an original parts manual for your truck so that you can search for needed parts by parts number. Sometimes search engine searches are listed only by the part number as the listing person had no idea what the part was intended to fit. For rare parts, patience/persistence/diligence are needed.

To expand on Paul WNC's comment about having the original part number, you might be surprised to know that the Chevrolet dealers have an obsolete parts computer. You may have to talk to an experienced parts manager to get them to look up a number. I have done this at two AZ Chevy dealers with varying success. As an example of success, I found 4 spider gears with thrust washers (NOS) for the two speed differential on my 1950 COE. These were located at a dealership in New York state and they had no idea what they were and they sold them to me for a total under $75 which I consider very reasonable. I also obtained a NOS diaphragm for the vacuum shifter for the same differential. This was located at a GMC dealership here in AZ. When you present the number to the parts desk the first reaction you will get is that is not a valid number because it does not have enough digits. You then must ask them to look at their obsolete parts computer and that may get you only a confused look. If that happens then ask to speak to the parts manager. If he/she can't help you go to another dealership.
By the way the parts number publications are available on line at the Keith Hardy Old Chevy manual site.
Good Luck,
Kent

29tons, If you would post up the GM part #'s you need.

I will search for the parts for you.....for......FREE !

If I can't find them they probably can't be found.

If searching on ebay...........type in the part # in search box on ebay.

You need the part # 's or no one will be able to help you.

in another post I had on this site someone said the part number for the steering connecting link or drag link as I call it was 3696467 but when I put that number in the search box I found a different number which seems to be correct for a 51 chevy COE which is 3693941 it says 47-51 I tried ebay and craigslist locally. I have tried the local chevy dealer and the local parts store in the past and they act like your bothering them. Thanks for any help

Thanks, George

Does Collectors Auto have a website?

Maybe this: http://www.collectorsautosupply.com/
The telephone number is the same.

Here is there parts listing: http://www.collectorsautosupply.com/allnumbers.html
(maybe it is updated? - years missing on some of the parts - 3693941 is not shown)
It is certainly worth a phone call.

Thanks for reporting back, 29tons

I think I will call them about "odd/rare COE parts".

I'll also report back here.

I called them. It seems to be a very efficient/orderly operation. They asked for part numbers.

I'll see if I have the GMC part numbers. If I do, I'll call them, and report back here if they can find the rare parts.

Is it not what you ordered, or not what fits your truck?

well Part of the problem may be my title says 47 but when I order parts 51 seem to be correct much more often so I useally order 1951 parts and 99 percent of the time they are correct. my gauges are brown with white letters the gas tank is behind the seat and the truck has vent windows I was told that they did not come out till 51also brake parts like wheel cylinders were also 51. The draglink part number went from 47 to 51 so I figured I had it covered either way. My drag link has parts that cannot be removed on both ends like ball joints with nuts. The new draglink has cups and springs in the ends which are held in with a small flatpeice that can be tightened or loosened with a screwdriver and there are no bolts to hold it to the steering parts.

The one piece draglink is the newer type. Tapered stud fits tapered hole in arm, held in with castellated nut and cotter key.
The kind with springs, cups, and big slotted keeper screw and cotter key is usually older. The balls are often riveted into the arms, and the balls eventually wear too, making for more trouble to replace.

More modern trucks often have the newer kind of ends, but they are separate ends that each fit into threaded connecting sleeve, also allows adjustment of length.
Some chance you can piece together one like this with off the shelf parts.

I may have to try that but I was hoping to get what I had. Most auto parts around here are useless But there is 1 that has helped out with older stuff. But I can tell that they dont seem to want to be bothered. They are understaffed and very busy.searching for older parts takes time. Thanks again everyone for the help. If anyone knows for sure the part number that grigg discribed please let me know.I wonder what a 1952 draglink would look like

Sounds like you definitely have a 51, or later model COE. Does it have "Chevrolet" emblems on each side of the hood, or large "5700" etc ? Does it have pull down type door handles, or push button type door handles? A 47, or 48 will have the fuel tank, mounted on the passenger side frame rail, and a 47 has a one year only dash, that doesn't have the notch at the lower portion between the gauges.

The truck was partly restored by someone else no emblems on hood and no door handles on the outside that may have been filled. It has a reissued vin so you cant use that either. I have been back and forth with collectors for almost 2 weeks and they are saying that they cannot get the later drag link part number which is 3696467. The guy at collectors supply said that number started mid 51. The earlyer number is not correct for me. If anyone knows where I can get that number let me know. Thanks again for the help.
