on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 914 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 914 | I have a 235 engine that I was told came out of a 1958 Chevy when they were making it into a hot rod.
Numbers on the block are:
6 307 CON 3 L 47 3738307 - From this number I found out 235 from 1958 to 1962
F207B behind the distributor
On the head:
B 38
B 46
CON 12
850
848
I hope you bolters can help to pin point what I have. Thanks, Jeffrey

L = 12 = December 4 = 4th 7 = 1947 F 207 B Flint, Michigan assembly plant 2 = February 07 = 7th B = 235 car engine with Powerglide transmission (it would have had hydraulic lifters) Those head codes are not the pertinent codes for identification. Perhaps it is a very late 1947 engine that had been installed in an early 1958 vehicle? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 914 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 914 | Tim thanks for the response.
Along with the 3738307 indicating a 1958 - 1962 on another website.
They also discussed that the L 47 could also be that it is December 4, 1957. Thus an early 1958 car engine.
You are right about the powerglide because the engine still has the automatic flex plate. I did not take off the side cover to see if the engine has hydraulic lifters. Though the rocker arms still have the lock nut and threaded screw to adjust the valve lash.
The engine also has a 12 volt ignition coil and a 2 stage fuel pump. Meaning vacuum boost for the wipers.
