Recently the speedometer in my 1951 1/2 ton stopped working. I when I took the cable off the speedometer a bunch of brass shavings fell out. I took the speedometer out , cleaned it and it works fine but where the square end of the cable goes in is stripped. Is there any fix for this or am I stuck getting a new one? I couldn't seem to get the stripped part out of the casing either.

Use a wooden kitchen match as a template and fill the stripped section with something like J-B Weld or Epoxy Steel. Then drill the wood filler out carefully, and use a square needle file to adjust the hole size if necessary to fit the cable end. I'd strongly recommend a new cable- - - -the end of the old one is probably worn undersize by now.

Cables come in 3 sizes, don't have the dimensions, so find a speedo shop and search around for a size that might work well with Jerry's process.
