One of the many items I collect (other than carburetors) are car cards. Not baseball, or football, or basketball, but car cards.

These pictures are of "punch-out" cars (popular when I was growing up in the 1940's and 1950's) that were actually a product of Chevrolet, The cards are 12 inch by 12 inch, and if one were to actually make the cars, they would be roughly 8 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide.

These were just acquired for my own personal collection and are NOT for sale.

Those are cool. I noticed only one of them had wheels though...is that how Chevrolet indoctrinated one into purchasing options?

Thanks for sharing an interesting part of history.

Mick - not any of this set; didn't know they existed until they surfaced in an online auction. I collect them unbuilt, probably have 125~150 different in current collection

In seemingly a different lifetime wink yes, I did assemble one of the Nabisco models (the Jaguar, from memory).

And they may be directed at kids, but getting the folds correctly requires a kid that has built a lot of plastic (or when I was that age, wood) models.

My first wooden airplane model was a disaster wink

I am from that era but I shure don't remember them. I do remember the model airplanes that came in cereal boxes. You put all the sticks together with airplane glue. It had a large rubber band that went down the middle of the fuselodge . You spun the prop with your finger till your finger get sore. You turned it loose & it went about 20 feet & crashed.

Wrenchbender - I used to go to the store with my Mother, and I got to pick out the cereal. Mostly, the cereal with the best premiums was the best cereal (health-wise) and the worst-tasting (wonder why the good premiums wink ), so Mother was not concerned with my choices.

In 1953, when Wheaties came out with the metal car emblem premiums, and in 1954 and 1955 with the metal license plates (bicycle size); we started buying Wheaties. The taste was kind of like the cereal my doctor recommends today; you go to the store, read the labels, pick out the healthiest cereal by label, take it home, give the cereal to the birds, and EAT THE BOX! Interestingly, the birds won't touch the cereal either. wink

But back to 1953. Fish (that we caught) was a staple in our diet. Wheaties, if mixed with a raw egg, and some chicken blood (grew up on a farm); made a wonderful doughbait for catfish.

You have to improvise!

Oh, and those wooden airplanes: I learned NOT to glue them together! When they crashed, the individual pieces would move, but not break; and the plane could be reused.

Jon.

Those are very cool. I have not seen them before.

How hard would it be to get a nice high resolution scan so that we could print some on card stock and build them?

Give the weather a chance to improve. I am very good with film cameras, but challenged by digital ones. Need good weather and shoot outdoors.

One of the best ones that I remember was the legal deed certificate for a square inch of land from the Klondike Big Inch Land Co. in the Yukon gold fields. It came in Quaker Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice. It would have been around 1955.

Jim,
My memory is not that good but I found it in some old stuff I had and installed it in a frame and have it on a wall in my office. Interesting conversation piece.

When I was looking for my original plate to run on my 53 I kept running a crossed the bicycle plates and wondered what they were from. Had to be careful not to buy one by mistake.
