I just picked up a '51 1/2 ton and am a little confused. Instead of a 6 lug pattern, it has 8. Can anyone point me to a thread that explains this or can help? The serial number is 9JPB 5851, so it's definitely a 1/2 ton. Cheers!

The plot thickens...I just measured the wheel base, center-to-center, and it's 116". Nothing seems hacked up or hodgepodge. It looks like a factory 1/2 ton with 8 lug wheels and 5 windows. Any thoughts??
At some point a PO replaced the front and rear axles with 3/4 ton. Done in order to make a short bed 3/4 ton since the factory didn’t make one.ðŸ›

Does it have a torque tube? Does it have a u-joint ball with a short stub like a 3/4 ton setup? Is it possible to put 3/4 ton 8 lug hubs on a half ton front axle?
