on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,644 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,644 | I was in a Tractor Supply store yesterday looking around during lunch and came across some motor oil on clearance for $4.99. It's a 2 gallon jug of "standard non-detergent motor oil, SAE 20W-20". I thought I had found a really good deal until I picked it up and started reading on the back. It said it was NOT recommended as an oil that requires additives, and was not recommended for use in automobile or truck engines. I have two questions........
1. What is this oil good for? 2. Is there any place in or on my old truck I can use this oil?
Many thanks!

It's also pretty good for lubricating whetstones, and keeping farm equipment from rusting. Just don't put it in an engine and expect it to work well! Jerry

Most non auto transmissions call for a heavier W lube. It also would work good in an oil can to use on door hinges and latches. Home or auto. Just a drop once in awhile and wipe excess off.

Don't remember the weight.

I only have a small compressor so have no need for oil there, and if all this oil is good for is to lubricate hood and door hinges then 2 gallons of it, even at $4.99, doesn't sound like a bargain. I'll pass.
