Hello all. I have a rebuilt inline 6 engine I'm looking to sell but I have no idea what it is worth. I know what I put into it with the block being rebuilt, the head being checked, the alternator, generator and fuel pump being rebuilt as well. Any ideas what someone would pay for this?

Depending on the make/size/year of the engine.
Depending on rebuild documentation you have available.
Depending on how many miles & years are on the engine since the rebuild.
Depending on you providing a warranty regarding oil pressure, compression, and no cracks/leaks in the block/head.

Careful Kevin, you are getting really close to breaking the offering for sale in a regular forum rule. Had you left out "I'm looking to sell" you would have been just fine. I suggest anyone wanting/offering information do so by Private Message.

Kevin, I would make two suggestions;

1) edit your post to omit "I'm looking to sell"

2) edit your post to include specific engine etc. Stock rebuilt 216? Modified 302? Your post is too vague to get specific answers.

Depending on "who" rebuilt the engine and depending on what kind of a "rebuild" it was.
To some, cleaning the grease off, spray painting it and just replacing the rings and main
bearings and new gaskets is a rebuild.
Proper rebuild is Magnaflux of head block and crank. New valves, hard seats and guides
resurface both block side and manifold side of the head.
Boil the block, re-bore block, new pistons, recondition rods, grind crank, new cam bearings
check cam against specs .
It has an alternator and generator, which is it???
Properly done, cost for a rebuild is between $4,000 & $5,000.
Don't mean to bring you down Kevin, but the reality of it is, resale value after rebuild......
......as Tim posted about a grand, maybe a little more if you can find the right person.
After all......most guys understand that you can buy a brand new crate engine for a
couple grand and have a modern dependable small block for less than half what it
costs to rebuild a 60 year old Chevy 6 that's only gonna put out 1/3 the power and
give you half the fuel milage.
What you've sunk in to it, can only be considered a labor of love, not a good investment
by most.
