I found and purchase a 1954 Chevy 3600 w/ a 235.
From what I can tell the engine is the original motor to the truck. I want to repaint the engine to original color and from my research appears that it should be gray. However the paint traces on the motor appear to be a blue. I was planning on getting the paint from The Filling Station. Thoughts on this?

Dan, welcome to the stovebolt. Its the place to be if you own an old Chevy or GMC.

Since this is the Welcome Centre its not a good place to ask technical questions, or just about any question to be honest. While we do not like "double post" I'm going to leave your post here so folks can shout out a welcome to you and I suggest you post your question in the Engine forum....or perhaps the General truck forum. Always best to ask questions in the most appropriate garage forum for the best results.

Engine color has always been a big discussion especially the "shade" of it. However, I'm sure you are wanting what is correct for your era/year of truck. Guys can answer that over in the other forum mentioned above.

Good luck and remember, we are here to help on your journey.

By the way, Dan, blue was the 1954 care-engine paint color. 1954 and later truck engines were a light gray color (but many people/members like to debate the shades of gray).

When a 235 engine got rebuilt, it was often painted the light-blue (Blue Flame Six) car engine color.

Thanks for the info!

tclederman,
What is the life span of these engines? Meaning how many miles do they generally go before needing rebuilt?
