For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 13 | I found and purchase a 1954 Chevy 3600 w/ a 235. From what I can tell the engine is the original motor to the truck. I want to repaint the engine to original color and from my research appears that it should be gray. However the paint traces on the motor appear to be a blue. I was planning on getting the paint from The Filling Station. Thoughts on this?

Since this is the Welcome Centre its not a good place to ask technical questions, or just about any question to be honest. While we do not like "double post" I'm going to leave your post here so folks can shout out a welcome to you and I suggest you post your question in the Engine forum....or perhaps the General truck forum. Always best to ask questions in the most appropriate garage forum for the best results.
Engine color has always been a big discussion especially the "shade" of it. However, I'm sure you are wanting what is correct for your era/year of truck. Guys can answer that over in the other forum mentioned above.
Good luck and remember, we are here to help on your journey. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Hello, danM., Welcome to Stovebolt.com J54F017807 = Vehicle Serial Number J = 3600 54 = 1954 F Flint, Michigan assembly plant/factory 01787-1000 = 787th truck out of that factory in 1954 http://www.1954advance-design.com/chev-specs/1954-t-ser.jpg3835911 1953 Corvette (after 16 October) and 1954 truck 235 0636394F54X A = Engine Serial Number 06363954-1000 F = Flint plant 54 = 1954 XA = 3600 There are casting codes on the head, post them here if you want to ID the head (it might have been changed over the years). http://www.1954advance-design.com/Web%20images/casting-code-photos/codes-ser-nums.htmlGood luck with your truck. When a 235 engine got rebuilt, it was often painted the light-blue (Blue Flame Six) car engine color. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 13 | Thanks for the info!
tclederman, What is the life span of these engines? Meaning how many miles do they generally go before needing rebuilt?
