There is an engine Serial Number pressed into the block to the rear of where the distributor enters the block. Find that code and post it here. Head gaskets, cracked head, cracked block are the usual suspects.

That is one possibility, but Martin's post above states the more likely suspects.
Were any of those mechanics the source of this motor?
Are they professional mechanics?
