Hello all,

I know that this subject has been discussed before. I don't recall anybody finding a Hammertone paint in an aerosol can, that matches the original AD Deluxe Heater. I took the aluminum emblem off the one that I am restoring. There is what I would call a non-committal color under it. It isn't a definite tan, or a definite gray. Probably, a little more tan than gray. I know that it is easy to go to one of the big box hardware stores and purchase a can of either gray or a brown tone. But, has anybody found a source that will match and mix the correct color? I see that Sherwin Williams is listed as a distributor of Hammertone paints. I plan to visit there store, very soon. Any help or guidance, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rugo

1953 Chevrolet?

Rustoleum also has a selection of "hammertone" paints.

Maybe someone will post a link to a thread or two that gives paint names/codes?
I think that Denny Graham and others have posted good examples?

Tim,

Thank you for your response. Yes, it is a 53 Chevrolet 3100. I have just returned from talking with Sherwin Williams. They don't have a color card, to look at. They suggested looking on line. Find a Hammertone/Hammerite, color card. Then, they might be able to order it in. If anybody else has found a better source, I am very interested in hearing about it.

Thanks again,
Rugo

Rugo,

I hope Denny reads this, and comments.

Here is the post/thread where Denny suggested a color.

Too many advertisements and pop-up windows, ugh.

I'd like to attach your image, below, but that option (the attachment manager) is not displayed for me in this forum?

twotone

Thank you for the suggestion and posting the picture. Oddly enough, after I had posted my original question, I found Hammerite Bronze, color #41185, on line. One picture I saw of it, looked like the color I was after. Then, I looked at it on Amazon, and it didn't even look close. I did email KILZ, the parent company of Hammerite. I asked them if they could let me know who carried the brand and color, near me? I haven't received a response yet. I see you are in Iowa. But, where did you purchase it? I really want to see in person, before trying it.

Thanks,
Rugo

I really hated to use the photobucket link. Unfortunately I don't seem to have a copy of some of those photos on my computer.

I don't recall where I got the paint except that I had to order it online.

I just wanted to ad that someone gave me some excellent information, but I can't find the post or PM that was the source. I can tell you that I've bought the cans for the interior and the heater, but have not gotten the steering wheel/column paint yet.

Here are what I was shown, I believe by DADS50 (???). Interior (dash, etc)- Rustoleum "Metallic Dark Bronze" part #7272830; and for the Heater casing Hammerite 'Rust Cap' "Hammered Bronze", part #41185. The steering wheel/column are a darker color. I've already done the heater, and it looks excellent.

I found both of these at an Ace hardware store, although they had to order them since they didn't have them in the store, but you may check Wallyworld or someplace since you've got the numbers. Hope this helps. Lee
