I need help, I have a 1961 chevy 1/2 ton short box 4x4. I bought it from the second owner, the first owner was his father in law. The truck is all origanal except paint. It is now orange in color and appears to have been painted this color more then once. I do see in spots like the firewall where paint has peeled and reveals a possible light green color. I would like to know the origanal color, but i can't find a color to match the paint code from the data plate. My paint code is RPO-710A, that is exactly how it appears on the plate. Thanks for the help

Check the web page to PPG and find out their color code for that color is 11807 or check this color chart from another site to see the color.

There appears to be two turquoise colors with the designation 710A on the color sheet. Hopefully one should be closer to yours than the other.

Here is a link to 1961 Chevrolet Truck Paint Chips & codes (I think). Be aware that these chips are 45+ years old, distorted by the scanning, and distorted by the PC's color rendering.

The chips from these sites make the color look much bluer than it is.

The chips I have are the ones offered by the site tclederman mentioned and he is absolutley correct when he mentions distortion,fading,PC's color.

The color 710A is Tampico Turquoise Metallic and is beautiful as were most colors for 61.

I saw a book recently at our local Barnes and Noble that had a listing of GM's paint codes with color chips so you can go to your local book store and have a look.Also a lot of the paint and body supply stores have old chip books and will help look up colors for you.

I am not looking for chips but actual touch up paint. I am touching up a 1911 Stanley Steamer with Brewster green as the main body color. I was hoping to find a small touch up bottle of paint. Has anyone seen these for the older colors? Joe

Joe H, Take your Stanley Steamer or a piece of it that is the color you need to a Automotive paint supplier. The most of them now days are equipted with a gun that they pass over the piece and it feeds info into a computer that tells the Saleperson what colors to mix for your need. I have been doing color matching for over 30 years and these things are Quick and very very accurate. They are great for faded out colors or ones that for some unkown reason did not come out the right color.
