How do I find somebody to transport a truck? I looked in the "hauling forum" but there seems to be little activity there and no responses to those requesting a haul. Thanks for any leads!
Google vehicle transport, there will be a boat load of providers pop up. Talk to your local trucking companies for recommendations. If you are looking for a privateer post a Craigslist want ad, however, do a thorough background check before you hire anyone. Good luck.ðŸ›

There are hundreds of brokers out there who will quote you a price and lead you to believe they have carriers waiting. They then post the move on a load board and "pray for a miracle" that someone will take the load. Make sure that you don't give these type of guys a deposit, because you will have a dickens of a time getting it back, I have been in the trucking business for over 50 years and have seen a few good, lots of bad and lots of ugly situations when a completely inexperienced person searches for a carrier. I would probably recommend U-Ship. You will get lots of carriers quoting with all kinds of prices. U-Ship screens them a little bit and I think they have a feedback deal kind of like eBay. The best thing is to talk to the carrier and make sure they have USDOT credentials as a carrier.
Make sure they are a carrier and not a broker and that their insurance filing is current.
I've had excellent luck with U-Ship. They have their system set up kind of like Uber, where you track the shipment en route. They seem to have good control over their haulers.
My experience with U-ship is hold onto your wallet. I see/hear on car shows, people saying they ship cars for $1000 or less but don't expect to find that yourself. The lowest quote I got on U-ship for open transportation with me meeting the truck 20 miles away at the interstate was almost $2000. I finally found a privateer who did it for $900. U-ship is a broker who posts the job on a board then hopes someone will take the job. The privateer I found uses U-ship & told me they take 20% off the top. He's no longer hauling vehicles. He found a job with a commercial hauler. Buy a Hemming's Motor News and call the transporters who advertise there.

He is an independent and we liked the idea that we were his only job, not one of 8 on the trailer. Other folks bid cheaper, but the luster of low price is quickly forgotten.

Not true. U-Ship is NOT a broker who posts hauls on a board in truck stops. U-Ship has it's own dedicated fleet of contract haulers that must be certified by them and meet strict criteria. They are NOT a load broker. I know, I've worked for load brokers.
Go to their site. Better yet use them like I did. I think you'll find you are wrong. While the carriers that use their load board are under a terms of use contract they are by NO means an employee of U-ship. They are independent contractors. U-ship is indeed a broker. They charge brokerage fees. You can call it whatever you want but if they broker a deal between a hauler and a shipper and charge a fee for the service it makes them a broker.
