I've seen the other threads about finding wheels and see some are using Dexstar solid wheels. What I have now is the 8-spoke white wheels, some remember as weld wheels etc. After searching and reading I have settled on the same wheel type but 6" vs the 7" that are on it now. The old wheel weights even have marks and well it figures since there wasn't enough clearance to the tie-rod ends. frown

I decided rather than jump into a thread from back in 2013 I would just post the old and the new here for others that might be interested. Not a stock look by any means but then the truck doesn't have the stock bed now so it's ok with me.

I considered having the old wheels blasted and painted but they would never look as good as new and cost more to clean up than getting new. The new wheels are rated at 3,640 so they should handle the weight of the alternate bed on the truck now.

New wheels are running about $68 each. Extra for the center caps which I may or may not run we'll see. Getting new lug nuts also.
Birthday for the old truck

We drove over to a rock quarry scale and had the truck weighed for $10. Came out right at 5,000 gross.
Trial fit for the new wheel yesterday....looks like these will clear the tie rod ends fine.

My 3600 flatbed weighs in just under 4,000 lbs! FYI the 1 ton tie rod is a direct bolt in on a 3600 and it uses the modern smaller type ends!

Have all 4 of the new wheels and tires for the truck now. I picked a Hankook A/T tire. Put the front set on and they look good for what they are, at least they are round. Took a look at the other (right side) rear and what a mess. I think it is worse that the left side. Not even worth putting on the new wheels till I get the axle seals resolved.

The bed on this truck is not stock plus it has a hydraulic cylinder and assembly for lifting / dumping.

Thanks JiMerit Boltr#43 for the tie rod information I will keep that in mind! The new wheels I now have clear them just fine. Whoever put the previous wheels and tires on did not check the clearance and closely as I have and they actually scraped the lead some.

Spoke with a brother in laws relative last evening and he knows a couple of guys not far away that are capable and competent and they both have a shop where some of this work can be done. I expect that one thing will lead to another on this old truck including wheel cylinders, brakes, probably the complete brake lines also. Then we'll get into suspension parts...
