All questions is regard to '50 3800 DRW

I'm getting ready to start purchasing some gasket sets. Did some searching for the rear diff and carrier gaskets, everything I find says "10 hole". Where do I find a "9 hole" gasket set or do I just use RTV? Fel Pro site was only showing a 10 hole gasket as well.

Also, reading the tech article here about doing the pumpkin swap for a 4.10 ratio, further into the article it says:

"All HO52/72 rears can use any year of brakes. So a dual rear wheel rear brake system from 72 bolts in place of a 47 DRW system. Plus, almost all 14 bolt from 73-2006 brake system will work also. Wow, so you can ditch those Huck brakes at the same time ... :)"

I've not noticed many people posting about this, mostly just at a loss that the old Huck brakes are not made anymore and can be difficult to get parts for. Does this sound true, if so I think I will run with this and just get myself some "newer" drum brakes off something else.

I use Permatex "Right Stuff" instead of gaskets, and thats what I did on my HO52. Regarding brakes, I bought a bracket kit for the HO52 that allows you to install discs in lieu of the old drums but I havent installed them yet. I had nothing but heartache with adjusting my drums on this truck (either they drug or I had next to nothing) so I put discs on the front. I havent jacked it up this fall yet to see if the rear drums are still in adjustment.

I'm not sure about the 9 or 10 hole deal... but I replaced center section my 51 GMC and picked up the Felpro gaskets at NAPa, they fit and worked perfectly.

Differential carrier gasket: Felpro RDS5090 (the thin one)
Rear diff cover gasket: Felpro RDS5088 (the thick one)

I would not use RTV or similar instead of the correct carrier gasket because the gasket thickness is planned for good alignment of axle shafts into the side gears.
