so i have some 50 doors on my 53 as i hated the wing windows and all the noise going down the freeway. plus they're useless above 40mph.

but ive got the old hardware problem of frequent failure, and think id rather bite the bullet and spring for some bear claws. the issue is that the altman latches say that you cant lock your doors from the inside by pushing up on the handle.

and considering i now only have one lock - on the passenger side door- how are you supposed to be able to lock the driver door? im hoping theres an easier answer than ""ädd a lock to driver door"

Lock the driver door from inside, then slide across the seat and exit the passenger side. Watch a lot of Andy or Barney exit from the squad car.

Seems like the only practical answer, Carl (if you do not want to add a lock on the driver's side).

Worked fine in the good old day, when you parked on the street. You'd never want to get out on the street side of your truck.

so no, you cannot lock from inside and slide down the seat. thats the entire point of this post. is there any other option BESIDES adding a lock cylinder to the driver door?

maybe another manufacturer retains that ability? i'm googling but not really finding what i need. lots of installation videos but nothing that specifically addresses the ability to lock the door from inside.

If someone is selling a latch which cannot be locked from the inside, then the buyer of said latch would need to be extremely careful where he/she travels. It is getting harder and harder to find places where I want to drive without the ability to lock my doors while driving.
Am I missing something?

YES. exactly. who cares if your passenger door locks if you cannot lock the driver door? but the altman latches state that exactly- you cant lock doors from the inside.

so,..... unless someone has some new updates, it seems you are forced to install a lock cylinder on your "other" door or go without security. or stick with the original door latch systems, which seem to get worse all the time.

The bear claw latches have lock feature.....

So install a locking electric solenoid to lock and unlock one or all the doors.
Or fab a manual lock button or lever for the drivers door.

I used a remote locking fob and solenoids. Not too complicated, nice feature, looks stock.
