What is the best way to buff paint that has very minor scratches. What is the best product to use for this and the procedures to apply. This would be for a basecoat, clear coat paint. Thanks. :rolleyes:

To answer Your question properly it would depend on what You are calling "minor scratches."
A minor scratch means You shouldn't be able to
feel the scratches with a fingernail...If You can,
it will mean re-painting is necessary...
For BC/CC its best to use a rubbing compound with
not a lot of grit, or more on the creamy side...
Your paint store can make recommendations. BB

Thanks Bill. I'm speaking of minor scratches or maybe better, scuffs. Can't feel them with your fingernail. This happened when assembling the truck by leaning over the front fenders. The scuffs cannot be felt and barely seen, only if you look in the light a certain direction. Also, my lousy painter has a bug in the paint that I can see its wings, legs perfectly. Will need to try and get that out. I trust myself more than the painter who just wanted to get r done. Any suggestions on how I should go about eliminating this critter. I think its just under the clear coat. Would you recommend a rubbing compound for this also. Can this be done without a buffer since I don't own one. Thanks for your reply.

I had some dust on my 4t6 and a small run. I wet sanded with 1200 then 1500 then polished with a 3M
compound I got at NAPA. I used a buffer though the instructions said you could do by hand. Hope this helps. Good luck

Jon, sad to say it, but being its under the clearcoat..the bug will have to be sanded out.
Now being under the clear means it must have got stuck in the color and that sounds like You will end up going down through the color...I think the painter may owe You a do-over...I have had that happen on a air-dry enamel job... BB

Bill, your correct. The painter does owe me a do-over but I think I will try and fix it myself. Its not real bad but sometimes you have to do things yourself to get it right. This painter was well recommended but took alot of shortcuts. My original painter was real busy so I looked elsewhere, thats my downfall. As my wife says, "you should have waited for my favorite painter", and hard to say, but she was right. :mad:
