Hey folks,
I need help identifying this truck. I know it's a '50. I think its a 2 ton or a 1.5 ton, but not sure. Also, I haven't had a chance to look at the numbers on the engine, but was wondering if there were any visual clues based on the pictures. The truck does have a pto dump bed.
I have a pic of the tag in the album too.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

1.5 - 2.0 ton trucks were 4000-6000 series

Major differences were probably in the wheels and rear suspension.

rear suspension

tires, tubes, wheels (for 1951 - should be similar to 1950)

Hy NickE, your truck has the front axle of a two ton, bolted on hub cap. Someone has swapped in a more modern engine, a 63 and newer, something between a 194 and 250, from what I can see in the photos I don't think the engine is a 292 (it does not appear to have the tall side cover), hope that helps.

Thanks guys.
Does the door plate indicate which model it is?

Also, I'm confused by the "bolted on hub cap" reference. What does that mean?

Thanks again!

"Does the door plate indicate which model it is?"

It could/should.

Post the code here, and people will try to ID it.

Sure.

Serial No. 6TV B 1093

The "B" might be a zero, not sure.

Thanks!

that is referring to the cap over the outer wheel bearing on the front wheel. It is held on by bolts.

6 = Oakland, CA assembly plant
TV = 6100
B = (could it be an "S" = 6100S)
1093 = 93rd 6100S off that assembly line in that year

Also, what is that circular item sticking out of the front bumper? I just now noticed that, and I don;t recall seeing one of those on a big bolt before.

Vehicle Serial Number ID tag is attached below.

Comment: that ID tag might not be original and/or it might have been "edited"/changed over the years. The screws are not original attachment hardware.

Yea, I noticed that. The owner (well, the son of the guy who owned it) said that he thought the cab was replaced as the original was rusted out. He knew very little about the truck. I do have access to the title. My feeling on it was that it was swapped without any malicious intent.

Is there a good way to verify this?

Nick,

Verify what?
- that it is the original ID plate?
- that it has original attachment screws?
- that the ID plate was swapped without any malicious intern?

Can you attach a photo of the title?

Verify that the title matches this truck, and potentially, that this plate matches this chassis (even if it wasn't originally on this cab).
I'll attach a pic of the title shortly.
Thanks

1950 truck title (attached below)

HEA is the model preface on the title.
A plant number-character should be the first character, I think.

Here are 1950 truck model prefaces.

NickE,

Wait to hear from other members.

I'd guess that it is attempt to re-register a truck that might not have a clear/clean title, or might not have a matching Vehicle Serial Number Plate.

Is your registration still good (was it ever registered in your name)? If not, you can hope to be able to obtain a bonded registration (valued at the truck's value as-is).

Will do. I'd like to hear what people think.

On that topic, having purchased a 53 Chevy truck previously with a Washington state title, I've run into the scenario where the number on the title doesn't correspond to the number on the door, but rather the engine number. If the original engine is gone, there wasn't an easy way to tie a title to a specific vehicle. It had no issues getting registered, even with this scenario.

For this particular truck, it isn't currently registered. I'm thinking of buying it, and the title and bos would come with it. It was last registered in the 90's as is evidenced by the title application date as well as the date on the license plate seen in pics. It's been sitting where it is now, for an unknown amount of years.

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for a potential purchase.

Nick,

Oddly, it seems that the Engine Serial Number was more commonly used than the Vehicle Serial Number.

However, I have/had titles from two 1954 WA trucks that were titled differently: one with the Engine Serial Number and one with the Vehicle Serial Number.

I was able to title both of them in NY. However, NC will now be a problem with my trucks registered using the Vehicle Serial Number - I took off the body-tags to paint the cabs. The NC inspector appropriately noted that the attachment rivets are new - how can he be sure that I didn't put eBay-bought tags on those bodies. I had/have to obtain bonded titles.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback.
At what point did your vehicle need to be inspected?
In Washington, with a title present for the sale, a vehicle doesn't get inspected. There isn't actually a mechanism in place when a vehicle is sold/purchased to ensure the vehicle on the title is the actual vehicle being transferred.

Your Title number is the Engine Serial Number (very common prior to 1955). The 6000 Series trucks started with "HEA1001". Check to see if the engine matches the title.

Thanks Mike.
The engine is newer than the truck, so it won't match.

Still curious is anyone has seen one of those things on the front bumper.

So you have a very common problem now...the paper title doesn't have anything connecting it to the actual truck because the original engine is gone.

Your Chassis Serial Number "6TV B 1093" breaks down as follows;

6 = Oakland Plant
TV = 1950 6100 Series
B = February
1093 = unit number starting with 1001

Is the pipe flange connected to anything other than just being welded on top of the bumper? Was there one on the other side?

Fishing rod holder, mount for a ladder rack leg, grille guard?????

"Maybe for a parade flag?"

Maybe for any marker/warning flag?
