I always wondered if 47-54 AD pickup fenders could be adapted to a panel or Burb. Are they the same? If not, are they close enough to be modified?

Edit: It's obvious the front fenders are the same; I'm inquiring about the rears.

Not even close to the same in shape. If they can be modified to fit, we will see a response.

NOT ENTIRELY CORRECT - SEE BELOW.

So much of the other front metal parts interchange, I'm surprised they don't fit.

I've been thinking about that a lot lately. To me, the outer face looks the same. I'm thinking that a truck fender can be cut down to the proper dimensions, the edge rolled flat, slotted for the mounting bolts and installed. I've been looking for a donor but I'm certainly not going to go down to the local supplier, spend $350.00, then cut down that fender to find that it won't fit. I found one locally for $50, but I waited too long to pull the trigger and it got sold. If anyone has one they want to donate to the experiment, let me know!

It doesn't make sense to me that GM would make a separate stamp just for panel fenders.

Jay,

The front fenders ARE the same; but, the panel-body rear fenders ARE NOT the same.

Sorry, you are referring to front fenders.

"47-54 AD pickup [1/2-ton - 1-ton front] fenders"

Note that 47-53 front fenders are different from 54/55st front fenders.
And, GMC front fenders are a little different from Chevrolet front fenders.

Looks like it can be done but, I believe that the pickup fenders would need to be substantially altered.

Yes, and that 1 ton panel had to be substantially altered to make it look somewhat like a Suburban.

It would be interesting to see the interior rear seats,

Those fenders look like they were made to fit the dual rear wheels. For a regular Suburban, they would have to be cut down more!

I think the green panel/burb??? rig is in Cuba. My Brother in law brought home photos of this or a similar truck.
