Mod | | Forums66 Topics126,780 Posts1,039,295 Members48,100 | Most Online2,175 Jul 21st, 2025 | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 | ok so i definitely want to prep and prime my truck myself. from there, my dads good friend wh has restored many many cars says as long as i cut in, his buddy nearby can hook me up with the final coat of paint. the bed is off the truck and ive painted the frame from the cab back, and im currently sanding down all of the panels for the bed (bedsides, tubs, front, tailgate, etc). so the next step would be the front half of the truck, but the problem is that im worried if i start sanding, it will all start rusting because its just sitting on the street and i dotn have a garage. now i could try to find a friend somewhat nearby to let me use his garage, but im trying to figure out a way to keep from doing that. ive thought about maybe getting a large, thick plastic drop cloth to cover the truck everyday when im done sanding, but then if moisture got up under there id be afraid of rust starting. and just to clarify, im not looking to sand the whole thing down to metal, however in some parts im sure it will get there like edges and stuff, just looking to get through at least the clear coat. so any ideas i would really appreciate. thanks. | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,109 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,109 | build a a frame work out of 2x4s and cover with plastic . ron

Either find a garage or get one of the portable buildings.

It comes as a powder that you mix with water and then wash down your part. I've never had a problem with rust after using it.

Cover using the 2x4 framework and keep that plastic off the surface of the truck because of water vapor.Wipe areas sanded with prep as you go and as I said get it done as soon as possible and move it inside to a warm dry place.Just my 2 cents worth!!
