I need some advice on how to fix a leak (drip, drip) from the bottom of the steering sector. The leak is coming from between the Steering Gear Worm Bearing adjuster nut and the housing. The exploded view doesn't show any type of seal and I think if there was it would be damaged when you adjusted the nut anyway. Is this a place to use that "form a gasket stuff? Ok, you experienced Bolters' whats the fix ?

No gasket on my truck and no leak!
What I did is a mix of 2 tubes of 00 Chevron grease and 1/2 cup of Amsoil 90 weight gear oil, mixed together and then put the mixture in a sandwich bag that I cut the corner off of and piped into the box. Of course you could just find the cornhead grease that's recommended in these and Bob's your uncle!

doyle1950 - I put the cornhead grease in after having replaced the sector shaft bushings and also replaced the housing side cover gasket. This is a very slow but annoying drip.

** I had exactly the same issue with my steering box using John Deere Corn-head grease. I ordered a 2 inch outside diameter red silicone O-Ring and lubed it really well with Vaseline jelly & installed it before putting the large nut on. Snugged it down good and snug. Have not had and evidence of a leak since.

I used Stern's "00" self leveling grease in my box. Of course, that isn't gong to stop the seep that you have...

Anywhere there are threads for adjustments, including the lock nut, calls for Permatex # 2 upon assembling these parts. It remains flexible forever and will seal these areas very well. If you use Cornhead or similar grease and you still have a substantial leak, you need to replace some seals or gaskets.

The Shop Manual is very clear.

To prevent a leak, (drip, drip) read the paragraph....
Assembly of steering gear

52Carl and Oilrag- I read that section and did use the permatex everywhere called for except the adjusting nut for the worm bearing, go figure. Thanks guys, I've got the steering sector back out so it will be easy to correct.
