What would be better to use on the oil pan with cork & rubber gaskets ?

Tech Tip says to use any Gasket Sealants.

The person at my local Napa store said to use Permatex Ultra Grey Gasket Maker

Also what to use on the head gasket ?

All gaskets are on a 1960 235 with a Hydra-Matic

Thanks in advance. Michael...

I've used the red permatex in a tube that you put in a caulking gun on oil pans with great results. One of them has been hot rodded and still no leak after quite some time.

What kind of head gasket are you planning to use?

Alvin, I have both of these gaskets. The copper one is probably the one I will be using. It came in the full engine gasket set.

Copper Head Gasket

FEL-PRO Part # : FPG 7619B

When my father rebuilt the engine in the early 1980's it looks like he used blue silicon gasket materiel on the oil pan. Not sure if anything was used on the head gasket.

Thanks. Michael...

It is good to put sealant on an uneven surface like 'tin, and not use any on the Ci surface since that is for sure, for ease of removal, unless there is high pressure leakage? Behind the joint, putting sealant on both surfaces makes for a lot of work when removing.

The parts guy was as right as possible on the pan gasket. Use the sealant to stick the gasket to the pan not to glue the gasket to the engine. As for the head gasket there is a product called Copper Coat that comes in a small spray can. I have used it for 40 + years with no complaints. secret

+1 for copper coat for copper or metal shim head gaskets.
