Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!
| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,424 ODSS President | | ODSS President Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,424 | The Attendees: Jim and son Jack Brad, Jim Christian (Hardshell), Phillip Pierce, Hambone, Sweet, Alec, Grigg, and yours truly. The Venue: The Wild Wolf Brewery where were met by the manager who promptly escorted us to a premier table under a fine canopy of hardwood trees. He returned shortly with two stickers each, one a signpost-like Nelson 151, and the second a Brewery of the Year designation. If you lifted your gaze to the horizon you were met with a 360 degree view of the beautiful scenery of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. The Award Winners: Long Distance Award: Easily captured by Hambone who made it look easy in his fine Chevrolet. Jay Gatsby Host Award: Not only did Phillip Pierce cover our dinner and bar tabs it was his idea to have the event! Special Presidential Award, Young ODSS Member Division: A constant stream of propulsion and locomotion espoused by Jack Brad challenged our end of the table with constant thought! Special Presidential Award, Planning: Alec, Sweet, Phillip and myself. Many hours were spent anguishing over minute details of the day, often with beer in hand at our respective keyboards or phones. Upon completion of our repast we ventured out to kick tires at the location of our trucks that were also located underneath the aforementioned mature hardwoods. We then ventured a few miles south on Route 151 to The Devil's Backbone to have a parting beer. This venue has changed much in a few short years. We chose a picnic table at the outdoor bar pavilion, cooled by a huge overhead fan. Many thanks to all who attended and those that couldn't make it you were well represented in our thoughts if not our lively conversations! Looking forward to our next get-together as always! Happy Trails! Cosmo

Looking forward to the next one!

It was generous of Phillip to cover the beer tab.
I hope I can make the trip next year. Is this gathering always at the same location?
If I can make the trip, the beer tab is on me. (however, these days, infant grandchildren come first) I have not taken an old-truck road trip in almost two years - shame on me.
The camaraderie of the ODSS is remarkable.

The craft beer in the Blue ridge mts were not bad either. http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/douglashamilton1/library/ODSS | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 2,234 Moderator: Interiors, Texas Bolters, Name that Part | | Moderator: Interiors, Texas Bolters, Name that Part Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 2,234 | Cosmo,

Did you happen to "go" to the Boom Boom Room? Was Satchmo up in the joint? (See the movie "Life" starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence for reference.)

Having a hard time with the Photobucket. Guess they want me to start paying to host photos. And just for the record, I did not buy everyone's beer, but there were few fellow Bolter's who have helped me store and retrieve parts for my 1927 Chevy Capital. Cheers to all!

I went a few weeks ago with my brother in law and was surprised at how Devils Backbone had grown.... until I found out they sold out to Budweiser. Craft beer lovers and locals are NOT happy about them selling "their souls". The new Silverback distillery is definitely worth a stop... great rye whiskey. In 2008, Anheuser-Busch was purchased by InBev, a beer conglomerate based in Belgium and Brazil. Yeah, those deep pockets are only supposed to be for capital expenditures and advertising but the place has changed. They are going to slip a Brazilian Budweiser in the taps one day and I will hurl.
