Can someone help? I have a 1950 3100 with stock 6.50x16 tires. Can I fit a modern day radial on there without a tube? Or must I have a radial type tube to go with it? I can't seem to find a straight answer in the forums. It would be save me some money and increase drivability if I could go with the modern tire and no tube, however other than looks are their drawbacks? Thanks.

If your wheels will hold air without tubes, mount the radials tubeless.
If the wheels do not hold air use tubes.

I have a set of LT215/85R16 blackwalls with and without tubes.
"other than looks . . " They look like originals.

The ones with tubes have been on my garage-parked Suburban for over 13 years (but, only have about 11K miles on them).

You have to play with the PSI - high enough for easy steering, but not so low that you wander at high speeds.
I think mine are between 40-45psi.

Rims designed for tubes do not have the safety bead lock hump. This hump keeps the tire on the rim when air pressure is lost.
