Water pump and thermostat housings hoses to the two connections on the firewall?

It will go to the lowest connection on the heater. The higher outlet on the heater is the return & goes to the water pump.. Somewhere around that era they started using 5/8 hoses on the pressure side & 3/4 on the return. If that's the case it is obvious which one goes where. If there is a valve in the circuit the pressure side will go to the valve first.
