How difficult is it to remove the fuel pump on a 1955 235? The reason I ask is that I need to replace the metal fuel pump to carb line and It looks like it would be a WHOLE lot easier if I screw it on the pump then install the pump back on the engine.

| | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 1,149 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 1,149 | You don't have to remove the fuel pump to replace the metal fuel line. If you remove the fuel pump you might have to put in a new fuel pump gasket. So you're better off not removing the fuel pump.
Just make sure you don't cross the threads when screwing on the metal fuel line. When you start to thread on the pipe fitting nut into the fuel pump port, and it starts turning hard, that will tell you the threads are crossed. The pipe fitting nut should turn fairly easy until it bottoms out. You may have to bend the pipe slightly to get the pipe fitting nut threads to line up with the fuel pump port threads.

| | | | Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 336 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 336 | I'd recommend attaching the fuel line to the pump before the carb end. Keep it loose until you attach the carb end. Once you have both ends connected, them tighten them.
