I saw a you tube video where a guy to start his 6volt Packard using a 12volt jump box to start the car. Will this harm anything?

Ron, it's done all the time. Jump starting a 6 volt with a 12 volt. Just don't leave the 12 volt hooked up more the a few seconds. It might go boom!💥 The 6 volt battery that is. The starter doesn't care but the battery does.

I tried to find the youtube video. He did some rewiring and bypass of some wiring because he kept it wired all the time for cold starts. Thanks.

I like to compare electrical voltage to water pressure. Most electrical devices are made to handle 20% above or below spec. A 6 volt starter will take the added pressure of a 12 volt battery, just don't crank it for a extended period of time! If you keep doing it, eventually it will not survive the added voltage.

Think most here will say With 12 v applied the current flow ( amps) will be half that of the 6 volt .........so the starter will be just fine if not better off with 12 volts.

Yes........ I was thinking volt x amp = watts.........not thinking the motor winding resistance did not change...........but the starter will still be happy at 12 volts.

If your engine doesn't start right away with a 6 volt battery fed by a 12 volt battery, you have another issue which needs attention. That starter turns the engine over extremely fast.
