| | | | Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 326 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 326 | My engine temp gauge is not working and while trouble shooting, I can find no mention of an electrical temp sensor, but my system is. I have a sending unit at the back of the engine in the block (235) with an electrical connection that runs into a wire harness at the firewall. At the back of the panel, 2 wires exit the same harness ( I guess one from the sensor, and one from the ignition switch?) that connect into the back of the temp gauge. All the literature I can find only talks about a tube that connects from the engine to the gauge to indicate temperature. Anybody with any information on this setup?

The only "tube" would be for the oil pressure gauge. That is how my 59 is set up and I actually have the IP pulled away from the dash as we speak. Hope this helps, let us know!

I have the supplement for the 56 truck manual, but neglected to look in it. I'll pencil in the additional wiring on mine. I hope to start a rewire in the next couple of months so it is good getting this info now. Thanks again.

I'll next check if I am getting power and if I have continuity from the sending unit. If that all checks out, then it will be either the gauge or the sending unit.

That would essentially connect 12 volt power to the sending unit side of the gauge which is usually not good. Also, be wary of aftermarket sending units, some work, many do not.
